Fruit and vege prices 14 years on...

Image
For some reason that I can't rightly recall, in 2009 I started a blog to visually record my veggie and fruit purchases at the Lower Hutt Riverbank Market, and in a couple of the posts I recorded the prices. When I rediscovered the blog recently, I thought it would be fun to go back to the Riverbank Market and see how fruit & veggie prices had fared in relation to my salary over the last 14 years. So welcome to the first longitudinal study of Lower Hutt Market veggie/fruit prices.  In the 14 years from 2009 to 2023 my salary went up 33%, or 2.3% a year (if you divide 33 by 14). See below the price increase for the individual fruit and veg.  2009 >> 2023 Red onions 2.49 >> 3:99 up 38% Leeks 1:50 >> 2:50 up 40% Broccoli 1.50 >> 2:50 up 40% Red capsicums 3 for 5$ (1:66 each) >> 3:50 each up 53% Oranges 1.29 >> 2.99 up 57% Caulis 1.50 >> 3:50 up 58% Lettuce 1.50 >> 2:50 up 60% Apples 99 >> 2:99 up 66% Kumara 2.99 >> 1...
